Day 13 (10/1)

It was a perfect day for touring: cool, calm, and cloudy.  The morning was quiet as the route strayed from R66, taking me out into the beautiful countryside.  Very few cars passed me in the morning between Rolla and St. Robert.   Near Hazelgreen, I encountered closed roads on both sides of I-44, (which runs alongside R66 through most of the state). This created some extra mileage up some steep hills, but I finally got through with  a bit of civil disobedience by carrying my bike over a bridge barrier.

Route 66 continues to be hilly through this part of Missouri. My legs are feeling the burn!
I ended the day in Lebanon, MO, a 65 mile day.

I took a gamble and kept riding, thinking I could still get through, but I was sadly mistaken.
